General Information About How To Get On Google MapsThe Article Bloke
Now whatever type of advertising you do to attract new customers, there is certainly by far one technique that is just the worst. That's advertising that never really gets seen.
Computer systems became an essential productivity tool in the 1980's long before the "Internet" or "World Wide Web" manifested itself in the late 1990's. The world wide web opened up with a flourish that gradually blew up as the dot com bubble. Now not everything was negative about that particular experience. But essentially the most common results for hundreds upon hundreds of small businesses was a flock of web sites that almost no one ever saw. (Apart from maybe your mom and you when you took the time to search for it.)
I've often called these types of small business websites as electronic brochures as useful as a "billboard in a pasture that only the cows read." As of 2010, about one half of all small businesses in the USA had websites for their businesses, and the other 50% steadfastly refused to make the leap. It's sad for me personally to say so, but in many areas the guys who choose not to play the internet game may well have won on their bet.
Whether they paid a large amount of cash to an expensive web designer, or got by on the cheap by using the services of the son or nephew the issue was the same. It was one thing to have a web site and another one entirely to have one that was basically worth beans from a marketing and advertising perspective.
Now there were many things wrong about the majority of internet sites that goes well beyond the purposes of this specific article. I detailed many of them in a guide I wrote many years ago called, "Why Most Small Business Web Sites Stink!" But the actual salient point for our conversation today is the fact that these websites in general were hard to find by prospective customers trying to find a provider to meet their requirements. As such, they were mostly ineffective, from a purely marketing viewpoint.
Now if your prospective customer already knew your company name, or the domain name of your internet site, they could find you. They could maybe check your hours, phone number or address, which was not all bad. But if they were thinking of buying a left handed pipe wrench that you actually sold, the odds were not good. The net result is that almost all businesses did not attract many new customers because of their internet site. They had to drive traffic to their websites by other types of advertising before they could possibly provide any real help.
I mention all of this because, Times Have Changed. Unfortunately, lots of local businesses having been once burned and/or disheartened about the importance of the internet are now slow to pick up on the new reality. The new reality is that small business people should try to learn how to get on Google maps.
When people try to find a service provider to meet their requirements today they do it on the web or on their cellphones. Google shows a map with up to seven local businesses they think can fill that particular need. If you want those customers you should know how to get on Google maps to be seen when customers search.
The best part about it is that it's free. The simplest way to learn how to get on Google maps is to perform a search on Google for just that term.
